If you’ve been thinking about installing an outdoor kitchen in yoprefab-outdoor-kitchenur outdoor space you know how costly it can get.  On a tight budget??  Consider a prefab outdoor kitchen.  We’ve curated a list of kitchen islands around $4500 so you don’t have to mortgage the house to have a killer outdoor kitchen!

Quick Overview

When I installed my outdoor kitchen a few years back prefab outdoor kitchens were few and far between.  I ended up hiring a contractor to custom build my island which has a grill, stove top burners, sink, storage, and fire table.

Today you are able to find prefabricated units from a number of manufacturers.  Some are customizable meaning you can add various appliances and select the fit and finish of the island body and countertop.

A few things to keep in mind as you research

How much surface area will you need?  Surface area is generally tied into the number of burners in the grill.  If you entertain a lot you’ll want to make sure you have enough surface area to cook enough at one time for all of your guests.

Island components

Make a wish list of the appliances and storage elements you will want in your island. Refrigerator, warming drawer, sink, side burners, storage.

Body finish

Make sure the finish is going to stand up to the elements.  Stone veneer’s, stucco, brick, and tile all work well outdoors.

The counters generally take the most abuse from the weather so pick a finish that is going to hold up.  Granite, stone, and tile make good countertop material.

800 square inch cooking area
1 side burner
Stainless Steel Storage Doors
Stucco Body
Tile Counter
1 electrical outlet
Dimensions: 83.5″ x 38″ x 36.75″

What’s good?
The included outdoor certified electrical unit makes connecting electric easy. Note you will need an electrician to install the electrical line for new installations. The footprint is totally manageable in a small space at 83.5″ x 38″ x 36.75″. The stucco and tile color scheme blend well into a number of outdoor decor scenarios.

What’s not so good?
Although nice to have the single side burner is a bit bulky and its cover is not flush with the counter so it protrudes quite a bit which cuts down on the amount of actual counter space.

All heavy duty 304 stainless steel holds up to the weather and cleans up easily.  The modular storage drawer unit and sink unit let you create an L shape or U shape bbq island.  The additional searing station adds cooking surface area.

What’s not so good?
If you are looking for a multi-component outdoor kitchen this isn’t for you.  While it does have a sink unit it lacks a refrigerator which are included in most of the islands in this price range.  It’s also a bit longer so if space is at a premium make sure this island doesn’t end up taking over your patio.

4 Burner Stainless Steel liquid propane grill
800 Square Inch Cooking Area
Stainless Steel Storage Door
Tile Counter
1 Electrical Outlet
Dimensions: 70.5″ x 40″ x 66″

What’s Good?
This LBK401 offers a very compact footprint making it perfect for small outdoor spaces while still maintaining an entertaining area for guests. The raised counter height bar area adds counter space and provides room for bar stools. Even in this relatively spartan design the cooking surface maintains 800 inches with four 15,000 BTU burners.

This island is more of an entertaining space than a kitchen as storage and grill are the only kitchen elements in the island. But, at least the price reflects that.
